句動詞

句動詞とは、動詞に前置詞や副詞がついた「語のまとまり」が、一つの動詞と同じ働きをするするものです。
特に現代の英語では句動詞がよく使われます。ちなみに、句動詞は群動詞ともいいます。

句動詞は、元の動詞では表されない意味を表わします。”come”,”get”,”make”,”put”,”take” など簡単な動詞が句動詞となる代表的な動詞です。

「動詞 + 前置詞」は、他動詞と同じ働きをします。

・”look for”：「～を探す」
○　I will look for a new job.
　　「私は新しい仕事を探します。」

・”come across”：「～に出あう」
○　I am praying that you can come across good job.
　　「私はあなたが良い仕事に出会えるように祈っています。」

・”get over”：「～を克服する」
○　Can you get over that hurdle?
　　「あなたはその困難を克服することができますか。」

・”hear from”：「～から連絡をもらう」
○　I hear from him once in a while.
　　「ときたま彼から連絡があります。」

・”take after”：「～に似ている」
○　She doesn’t take after her mother at all.
　　「彼女は母親に全然似ていません。」

「動詞 + 前置詞」は、自動詞と同じ働きをするものと、他動詞と同じ働きをするものとがあります。

・”look out”：「気をつける」
○　You should look out for cars when you cross the street.
　　「通りを横断するときは車に気をつけなさい。」

・”set out”：「出発する」
○　They set out on an antarctic exploration.
　　「彼らは南極探検に出発しました。」

・”go on”：「続く」
○　That will go on for hours.
　　「それは何時間も続きます。」

・”stand out”：「目立つ」
○　You stand out even more than her.
　　「あなたは彼女よりも目立ちます。」

・”bring up”：「～を育てる」
○　She managed to bring up her children under great difficulties.
　　「彼女は苦労して、子どもを育てました。」

・”make out”：「～を理解する」
○　Could you make out what he was saying?
　　「彼の言ったことは理解できましたか？」

・”carry out”：「～を実行する」
○　We will carry out the floor cleaning tommorow.
　　「私たちは明日床の清掃を実施します。」

・”turn on”：「～をつける」
○　Please turn on the TV.
　　「テレビをつけてください。」
